Creating Cultural Swag In Our Youth

Simplicity

November 25, 2010

I drove to Compton Unified School district to pick up my first installment for the contract to create the Make It Move program.  I’m finally board approved, which means that I can start the program that will move, inspire, and transform Compton.  I walked into the huge buiding,  went up the stairs, told the secretary my organization’s name, signed, and picked up the check.  I was not excited, thrilled, or overwehelmed with joy.  I’ve learned so many lessons from this situation.  Just act like you have been here before in a another place in another time.  Organize, plan, prepare, research, take action and produce results.  Really look at details, and take each situation moment by moment.  Pay attention to the details.  Save the excitement, enthusiam, and childlike behavior for the stage, assemblies, workshops, etc…  This is serious work.  It’s really simple.  What you can smile at will make you grow stonger.  As I laugh at this situation, looking forward to the future of Mansa, everyting seems to be just simple.  I just recently started a part-time job working as a child care worker at a place called Child Help.  The leadership trainer Lenier Lee said,”Just Act like stuff is no big deal!”   I feel this big opening from the universe, and I’m ready to walk through and  continue to learn how to grow, expand and develop my skills to make life work and keep it simple.
